Interactive Soundscape (in Progress)

Quiet is an exploration of remote communication through intimate soundscapes. The project is currently in development. Quiet is a interactive art installation that integrates both audio and video elements to create a multimedia experience, facilitating shared narratives through immersive storytelling. Each recording invites the visitor to experience a minute-long glimpse into the personal moments of different individuals. This artwork aims to foster a sense of connection and empathy by allowing the visitor to briefly "come to know" someone else's world—whether it’s their noisy calmness, tense evening silence, tired laughter, or sounds from an unknown space.

In today's fast-paced world, Quiet offers a moment of stillness and reflection. It reminds us that despite our differences, we share common emotions of worry, happiness, and loneliness. Through these audio snapshots, I invite you to immerse yourself in the unseen lives of others, experiencing a unique blend of personal narratives and auditory landscapes.

As you navigate through each recording, set against a serene white screen, take a moment to listen, absorb, and reflect on the shared human experiences captured within each minute. Explore the profound connections that can emerge from moments of quiet observation and listening. Each participant has shared an intimate moment from their daily life and quiet time.

The idea for this project was born in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, I created five recordings by giving a recorder to several people and asking them to use it for extended periods, capturing their moments of silence. It was a time when social distancing was crucial, and this project offered a way to connect despite physical separation. After receiving the recorders back, I listened to the many hours of audio and carefully selected one minute from each recording. The high-quality recordings ensure that each participant's experience is immersive and profound, fostering a secret bond between the listener and the recorded individual.

The final installation will allow participants to interact with the work in a way that brings these intimate experiences to life. Each of the recordings below has a length of approximately 1 minute. The screen remains white for the first 50 seconds, immersing the listener in the audio experience. At the end, there are 10 seconds of text that provide a brief reflection or context for the recording.
