THOUSAND THOUGHTS
THOUSAND THOUGTHS
Participatory art, art installation and video
2015
The installation consists of small, simple bags that I sewed from fabric. I left them empty and asked different people to take one and bring it back to me after spending some time dedicating a message or a simple thought to someone (even to themselves). However, they weren’t allowed to put anything in the bags—only thoughts. It was important for me to preserve the idea of material emptiness.
In a short video, I recorded messages from some of the people who participated in the project, mostly those who live abroad. It took me more than a year to collect them all. Each message brings a different spirit and has its own unique aura.
How equal we are when we miss someone. This project is about how full emptiness can feel, how empty home can be but also full of love in the heart. Even though the bags are empty, they are actually full.
